Secure Our Care aims to ensure access to quality medical care by identifying solutions to problems that threaten that care. Older Americans deserve better choices and more control over their healthcare so they can receive the care they need.
A critical but little-known aspect of the Medicare system centers around Medicare Administrative Contractors, or MACs, which are privately-owned third-party insurance organizations charged with determining whether new tests and products should be covered by Medicare. Recently, Medicare coverage for innovative testing which would help determine the best course of care for patients with cancer has been put in jeopardy. These tests aim to improve diagnostic accuracy, matching the level of treatment to the intensiveness of the cancer to reduce over- and undertreatment.
For the majority of cancer diagnoses, early intervention and treatment result in increased longevity making access to this groundbreaking diagnostic testing life-changing.
